Why we built it
Made at the counter, for the counter
KDS started inside Brother Joe’s. Our single iPad got flooded with tickets during the morning rush, and no off-the-shelf screen sorted work the way a barista thinks: by drink, not by order.
So the student team built one. It now runs our line every day, and the same software is available to other businesses.

Open items stack into one card per drink, with the orders behind it listed as chips. Ten iced lattes are one card, not ten tickets. Flip to By order any time.
Live from Square
Orders arrive the moment they are rung up, through Square webhooks with a backstop sync, so a screen never drifts out of date.
Mobile orders, handled
App orders show up ready to start. Starting one updates the customer’s order status, and finishing the last item marks it ready for pickup.
A screen for every station
Pair a new iPad with a six-digit code, name it, and pick exactly which items it shows. Bar, espresso, food: each screen sees only its own work.
Mistakes are fixable
Tapped the wrong drink? Undo it, or recall a finished ticket from the side panel. Nothing disappears for good.
Built for the rush
Age colors show what has waited too long, a chime announces new orders, size filters cut the noise, and the iPad app stays awake and full screen.
